Legends and Temple History

            The history of Sri Vasudevapuram Temple lies along with the ancient Hindu mythology.  It is believed by the devotees that Sri Vasudevapuram Temple was built by the Mahathma Sri Vilwamangalam Swamiyar, who was a devout Brahmin. It is believed that the idol in the temple have been worshiped by Sri Vilwamangalam Swamiyar. The temple is built for his mother for offering prayers during her old age. After the disappearance of the mortal body of Sri Vilwamangalm Swamiyar, that devine idol was installed in a temple as per temple rituals for the benefit of common people. The remnants of his house (known as “Illathara”) are presently seen near to the temple. This historical truth concretes the belief that the temple was built by Sri. Vilwamangalam Swamiyar.
